Computer Application and Integration in Design and Planning

Information technologies provide innovative approaches for optimizing products and processes. The Chair Computer Application and Integration in Design and Planning (C.I.K.) analyzes and adapts these technologies to the design and planning of products as well as to the domain of safety, security and crisis management. Taking advantage of basic technologies and innovative IT concepts and technologies together with the related methodologies the CIK develops solutions to current problems. Important areas of work are the development-related cost prognosis of processes, the development of data models for the product master data exchange and their validation together with mobile data services for different areas of application. Specific research and work priorities are:

• Analysis of requirements in close cooperation with stakeholders based on the adaption and advancement of approved requirement engineering methods.
• Application of software engineering methods from conceptual design to implementation of information systems.
• Evaluation of research results and quality management in the product development with focus on usability of software solutions.

Substantiated solution expertise is applied on issues of security research in addition to industrial problem areas. Based on the intensive cooperation with end users the CIK developed a valuable knowledge and experience. Thereby there exists a close cooperation with the Institute of fire and rescue technology of the city of Dortmund.
